Oak Brook is a very unique community in the Chicagoland area in that it covers approximately 11 square miles with a population less than 8000. It's another very affluent and educated community in the Western Suburbs. It began in 1958 as a planned community by Paul Butler, and exists today in that traditional subdivision format, many of which are gated.
Oak Brook is also home to Oakbrook Shopping Center and numerous other shopping destinations. As a result the mall's huge success, Oak Brook residents boast one of the lowest real estate tax rates in Illinois. In addition, Oak Brook is also home to many Fortune 100 companies, including Ace Hardware, Blistex, and Federal Signal Corporation.
Because of the healthy tax base and strong corporate presence, Oak Brook has one of the best funded park districts in Illinois. It is also the proud home of one of only two polo fields in the Chicago area.
Most of Oak Brook students will attend Hinsdale Central High School, a good portion will go to Downers North High School, and a small percentage will go to either York High School or Willowbrook High School. There will be a definitive distinction in home value based on which school district it is in.
The location of the village makes it convenient for most of Chicago’s major expressways. Oak Brook rests at the junction of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), the East-West Tollway (I-88), and the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). The Chicago loop, O’Hare Airport, and Midway Airport are within 25 to 35 minutes via highway. Train commuters can catch the rail to Chicago via the Burlington Northern in Hinsdale, or the Chicago & North Western line in Elmhurst. The trip is 35 minutes to the loop by local and 25 minutes by express.

Standard Market - My favorite grocery store in the area. The Standard Market Grill in the store has some delicious healthy options, and the wine bar is a perfect place to get a glass of wine and some specialty cheese from their own cheese cave.

Oak Brook Shopping Center - Great outdoor mall with just about every high-end store you could need.
