Western Springs takes its name from the mineral springs that first attracted settlers to the area in 1885, and to this day is one of the few Near West Chicago Suburbs to still draw its water supply from wells. These two wells draw from deep sandstone aquifers, and as a result, Western Springs is independent from Lake Michigan water. The village is also home to one of the nation’s largest community theaters, the Theater of Western Springs, founded is 1929.
The public schools in Western Springs are extremely well-regarded. There are four elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school, Lyons Township High School.
Located entirely in Cook County, Western Springs is divided into seven basic neighborhoods - Old Town, Field Park, Old Town South, Ridge Acres, Forest Hills, Springdale and Ridgewood. Some offer in-town, walk-to convenience, while others offer larger “estate” lots with a dramatic street presence.
Commuters can catch the Burlington Northern train line in downtown Western Springs, and reach Union Station in 20 minutes express or 37 minutes on the local. Western Springs is also very conveniently located between O'hare Airport and Midway Airport, and also the expressways I-294, I-290, I-55, and I-88.

Some of my favorite spots in and around Western Springs:
Dining/Food:
Vie - Was awarded a Michelin Star in 2012, one of the few places in the western suburbs that can truly be called fine dining. I've found it difficult to find properly cooked fish outside Downtown Chicago, this place does it right. Their charcuterie plate is one of my favorites.
Davanti Enoteca - Italian tapas menu with small and large plates for sharing. Best brunch in the area!
Oberweis - The neighborhood ice cream place. Rich and creamy, just how ice cream was meant to be.
Casey's Market - They move a lot of product here, so the meats are always fresh and great quality. The marinated skirt steak is a favorite of mine. Try the Chili Con Queso Dip, it's amazing!
